According to Spieltimes, Blizzard registered a trademark recently for the adaptation of Diablo into film to be accessed via web-based services. It has been rumored before that Netflix has something like this in the works. Here's the link to the Spieltimes article:

Personally, I'm not terribly hyped about another game-to-film conversion, but Netflix is good at this, so what are your thoughts?

So, the story of a guy running into a cave system, thrashing everything and running back to town to sell stuff, only to go back again and start all over again?

Nah, I don't really see the appeal of that plot...for a movie/TV show. ;)

Maybe it will be a 'dungeon of the week' type of show.

If they used the Elder Scrolls Oblvion map that would give them enough shows for a good six or seven year run. :D
If they had problems turning Doom into a good movie, how will they succeed in spinning out Diablo into a series? Quite the conundrum how this would be done successfully.
Just no. You can have all the cutscenes you want in games these days and they can be as good as any movie or show, so there's no point in creating something that eschews any kind of interaction.
Of all the Blizzard properties this is the one that makes the least sense as any kind of movie/TV adaptation. I'd much rather have a Lost Vikings animated show :D

Have you seen the trailer for the new one? Now that looks like a whole new level of failure.

Now at least that could be turned into something slightly more interesting than a Diablo themed show.
I can imagine those electro-beetles (did they have them in Diablo? I've only so far played Diablo 2) looking at their feet, script in hand, feeling awkward.
However, if the show was a success, Diablo 1 could become a future gold mine for GOG :)

That would be so good! Since they time travel, they could have guest appearances in other universes as well. Best part is, the concept itself is so dumb that even if it was bad it would still be good.

Other than that, I could go for some cheesy Starcraft tv-series.
A Diablo series doesn't have to necessarily follow the plot of the games. We could get stories from anywhere from Sanctuary. Ivgorod, Xiansai, Bramwell, Duncraig, Kingsport, Skovos etc.

Or it could be about the history of Sanctuary, retell the story of Uldyssian or even Inarius and Lilith.

And if it was made in the style of D3 cinematics, but made into a series, I would be in heaven.

Those are valid points. After all, Castlevania has become a success. It all depends on the story, as you indicate, and with Netflix all of a sudden having become something of an animation powerhouse, who knows. It could turn out good.
Diablo wouldn't work as movie or series, I think. Too little content. Too generic. It's just another 'hero bashes lots of mooks and then the big bad' story, like so many Steven Seagal movies.

But Lost Vikings as movie or series, now THAT is an interesting idea. Another (non-Blizzard) game that would be a good blueprint for a movie is Portal. Glados just needs to come to be big screen! :-)
It couldn't be any worse than that 2000 Dungeon and Dragons movie, right?
