Will GOG develop Galaxy for Linux now? I suspect the Gabe Cube (Steam Machine) may be quite attractie to the console audience. I know Xbox gamers IRL who bought the Steam Deck to play Sony games and now the Xbox is both dying and raising prices every two weeks. The time is perfect for the GabeCube to devour the corpse of the ExBox.

Is the price point the selling point? It looks like a fun alternative to people who can't build their own personal computers due to time and whatnot. Steam's DRM Machine doesn't sound as fun.

While Steam may be DRM, it is its own computer in the end, so you could still run Windows or whatever operating system you want, and GOG, along with offline installers, is completely possible.

TThe Steam Frame looks interesting, they’re clearly going after the Oculus Quest 3 this time. The Steam Index did not really compete, since it targeted the high-end market, but the Quest 3 became more popular thanks to being more casual and easier to use. I have both an Index and a Quest 3, and they each have their pros and cons. The main advantage of the Quest is that it’s non-tethered, of course. It’s also priced lower, around £470 here, which is almost half the cost of the Index. So I’d assume the main question will be what price point the Steam Frame launches at.

For us actual PC nerds that use GOG there may not be much appeal, outside of maybe the Linux market share growing as a result of the GabeCube. It will be kinda funny if all the Xbox people just get this instead of whatever hardware Microsoft may still try to make.

Considering how many games ship with a "Steam Deck" graphics preset, they may start doing the same for the Steam Machine, to make it easier for console users. If they can add detection or a prompt on first launch, it will be even better.

Microsoft has more or less stepped away from the console hardware market now. They’re phasing out Xbox hardware and shifting their focus toward Xbox as a digital platform and marketplace instead. There are currently no plans for new hardware, and Microsoft is now releasing its games across all consoles. Heck, even the next Halo game is coming to PS5.

I've heard that they may still try to make some hardware, but obviously there will be no reason to buy it.

Steam OS is pretty radical to be honest, so i'm not complaining, though i thought a so-called Steam Machine was a failed Valve project from like 12 years ago.

They are trying again, because the Steam Deck was a big hit and Steam OS is light years ahead than where it was a decade ago.

I would have expected them to come up with a new name, but i guess this could be an effective way of rewriting history if it's successful.

No, they won’t. They obviously no longer have Linux developers amongst their employees.

By the way, the lack of a Linux build of Galaxy is a good thing. It’s the only reason our native Linux games have not been polluted with DRM yet.

We should ask for Galaxy to be dropped on Windows and MacOS, not for it to be ported to Linux.

GoG has a marked share of like 10%
2% of the gamers are on Linu (on Steam, Steam HW survey).

Does it worth the effort to develop Galaxy for such "many" sales?
