Nice game but a downside in everything

This is a quite nice game, and a continuation of the two previous Wolfenstein games. However, - Much higher systems requirement for no visible graphical improvement; on the contrary, it is difficult to run in onboard GPUs. - In Linux there are random crashes, so you must play it on Windows (previous games ran OK) - super slow pause menu - cutscenes that cannot be paused? What?? (If you press Escape, the cutscene is skipped) - some cutscenes can be paused but not skipped (again, what??) anyway, the game can be fun but sometimes it cheats on you in gameplay mechanics. Purchase it, but bear these facts in mind.

Unplayable on onboard GPUs

This is just a heads-up. This is a 2018 game. I have an Intel UHD 620 onboard GPU and I was able to play other games even later than that date, but this game is not really playable. Even in the lowest settings and resolution, and even on closed environments, I could get 12 fps at most, which places the games firmly on unplayable ground. Thus, be warned: if you use an onboard GPU, don't bother with this game.

Stupid checkpoint system

I have finished the Prologue. The game is actually good and engaging. It provides an interesting story and it depicts with good detail the sniper work. However, this is all hampered by an extremely stupid checkpoint system. You don't have quicksaves at will; you are at the mercy of the game. Then, the game has only checkpoints, and these are few and far between. If you die you have to retrace a lot of useless, repetitive steps. And then,, to add insult to the injury, the checkpoint system is bugged. Sometimes I died and then the checkpoint loaded a game where I was dying again. Result: I had to begin from zero. Really, why on Earth someone would think that this could be a good idea? I don't have a whole day to waste just to pass some stupid part because the game devs thought it would be cool to take from the player the choice to save at will. A good game, completely ruined by this crap.

Good game, but some flaws

The game is reasonably good and provides a nice experience of what sniping is. However, the story is bad. That is not in the sense that is more or less developed than in other games, but you see a sniper led by idealism rather than following orders, something that is an absolute NO in any military. I was able to play on Intel UHD onboard graphics by doing 720 p in medium/low settings. However, the most infuriating part is that in comparison to the first game, you cannot save at will anymore; you have to rely on stupid checkpoint which later in the game are few and far between. Sometimes you would like to save before trying a risky move, but you simply can't. You die, and are backtracked forever and you have to play again parts that you have alreade beat. It feels like a chore, like grinding, in the worst possible way. And since this game is so niche, there are no mods which could restore that functionality. However, if you can live with such caveats, you will have good fun playing this game.

Hard Reset Redux

Great, underrated title

This is a great game. Not much of a story or lore, but it's there if you're curious, and even more, it's done tastefully using the aesthetics of the comic. Good music, nice gameplay. The game it's a nice FPS, with good level design, good sound design and visuals. Not open world, but still very playable. The graphics look quite good even on my potato Intel UHD 620 integrated GPU. I recommend the game; it's great entertainment for the money.

A little gem of a game, but not perfect

This is a little gem of a game. Now, this favorable verdict should be taken with nuance. Let's see: THE UGLY: - A terminal case of The Woke (1). Gratuitous thinking like gendercrap stupidity, antireligious rhetoric, and similar. They come off as cheap propaganda, advocating an intolerant, totalitarian and (imho) failed worldview. THE BAD: - Unstable and crashes regularly. This is compounded because you cannot save the game. There are savepoints but you cannot tell when they happen, the game does not tell you. - Don't care for the Minecraft-like pixelized/voxelized look. - Frequent loads, and loading time is slow. - A terminal case of The Woke (2). The protagonist identifies as a revolutionary anarchist. The whole worldview is EXTREMELY LEFT WING. The developer is German; maybe they long for the Wall and Hohnecker days. However, this is a dystopian city which justifies most of it. Some were not, as listed in "The Bad". - Car controls are awful. You cannot control it well, you bump everything until reaching a dangerous level, which forces you to seek a mechanic. You can't know the status of your car until you receive a warning (fixed in City of Ghosts). - Lack of a global map. Most of the time you need to cross through sections and cannot see your end destination. - No Linux version (at least on GOG). But... THE GOOD - Superb atmosphere and setting. Nivalis is vibrant and alive. - Great story with interesting twists. No combat one can speak of, mostly a driving/walking sim, but all right for me. - Excellent, mostly witty voice acting (except when they avocate woke crap propaganda; that was cringe). - Awesome, atmospheric soundtrack. You should *really* get both base and the DLC soundtracks. - Lightweight on resources. Runs very well on my Windows. - Works well on Intel UHD onboard GPU. I got great performance on 720p on High settings. The system reported low FPS but that was not the case at all; gameplay very fluid. All in all, a fantastic game.

Ending ruined it. Runs well on GNU/Linux

I really wanted so much to give 5 stars to this game. Seriously, it has all the ingredients of a epic hit: a great story, great graphics, an emotional story arc, superb voice acting with witty dialogue... what's not to like? Well... the ending. Whatever the scriptwriters thought of as an ending of this game is utter, absolute crap. Devastatingly bamboozingly bad. Beating-your-mom-and-killing-your-firstborn bad. The ending is anticlimactic, and thus lacks any closure for the player. And also is sloppily done. Don't believe the promotional blurbs telling you that this is a thrilling story, hinting that this is something of a thriller, a murder-mystery or something. It's not. It's utter and absolute disappointment. You WILL be cheated. The action is situated in some Wyoming national park back in 1989, and the environment is beautiful. The art direction in this game should win the award of the decade. The soundtrack, while minimalistic, is beautiful and well adapted to the story and the environment. This is a first-person walking simulator. Controls are okay. But you can't get killed, and this means that there are invisible walls. So, it is mostly open world, but the terrain forces you into one specific direction. Nowcall me a prude but something I found distracting and detracting is the excessive amount of gratuitous and unnecessary profanity and swearing. Besides unnecessary, this is not how two adults of 1989 interacted between each other, much less when they were of different sexes. It's so crude it breaks immersion. They sound like two teenage boys of today engaging in locker room talk. The game ran flawlessly on GNU/Linux. Even though I have an Intel onboard GPU, the framerate and quality were very good when running at Standard HD definition. So, beware. Purchase this game and it will be a great experience... but the ending will ruin it. Guaranteed. It's not often that one see such gigantic defeat snatched from the jaws of (almost) certain victory.

Skip this one. Get the first Red Faction

This game has been a disappointment. A lemon. The graphics were too old and quaint and the story, laughable. This is not a disqualifier per se, but to this we must add the following: - The aspect ratio is not optimized for 16:9 screens. The graphics looks distorted and (even more) cartoonish in a bad way. You can download a tool that supposedly fixes this but then (a) it doesn't seem to do anything, (b) you must run it every time you plan to play the game and keep that tool running, and (c) you must do it with admin rights. Seriously?!? - No quicksaves. What were they thinking? Instead, go for the original Red Faction. Using the latest Dash Faction tool, it looks great, has quicksaves at will, and has most kinks ironed out (save its atrocious ending, but that's another matter). Skip this one, safely and you'll save some wasted money and time.

Great game, great value & experience.

The TL;DR line: if you even remotely like sci-fi, the Tron movies or a good, lightearted FPS, get this game. I can't be more pleased with TRON 2.0. But let's first review the cons: - The game is somewhat short. - The levels are repetitive. You always have to unlock the gizmo XYZ to help program A achieve result B. But it's fun even with that. - The light cycle sections don't go with all people. I loved them but YMMV. - Sometimes after loading a saved game, the game becomes unresponsive and one has to sign out in order to regain control of your computer. - Installation of unofficial patch v1.042 is a must, and you must do it since GOG cannot carry it due to reasons. Now, having said that, this is a fantastic game. As some other reviewer said, this is a love letter to the original TRON movie. It really feels immersive; you feel like you are playing the movie again. The graphics have aged very well and the game looks great. Since the game is old, it's light on resources and can be player by almost every computer. The voice acting is stellar, and you have names such as Bruce Boxleitner, Cindy Morgan and Rebecca Romjin-Stamos. Gameplay is light FPS, with some RPG elements: you improve yourself with new versions and subroutines, and you could choose to improve your abilities as you see fit within certain parameters. This is somewhat similar to Deus Ex but resembles more No One Lives Forever (from the same folks). There are levels which have to be played with light cycles. There are new designs contributed by the very own Sid Mead (yay!), and I found the levels enjoyable, and a nice break from the FPS mechanics. These sections are well done and it really feels like you're playing a light cycle game from the movie. I understand these sections can be skipped for those less inclined to play them. But if you do, there is even a menu section where you can instaplay a quick race. All in all, great game and great value. Go get it!
