Fun demo! Neat game!
I just finished this demo, and I have to say it was more fun than I expected. I thought it would be just a typing game, like Typing of the Dead, but there's so much more to it. The demo does not take long, about half an hour, so if you're wondering about the game I highly recommend checking out this demo.
The game is a mixture of typing game (a la Typing of the Dead) and 2D bullet hell (a la Enter the Gungeon). You use the arrow keys to dodge protectiles while simultaneously typing words and phrases to do things like attack the enemy, disarm explosives, etc. There is controller support, but I only played with the keyboard, so I can't comment on that.
The story doesn't take itself too seriously and is both fun and funny. The characters are over-exaggerated stereotypes, and there's a good mix of pop culture and meta references in the dialog. The game looks great, if you're into these types of 2D games, and sounds great, too! The soundtrack is available on GOG as a separate purchase, apparently. I haven't heard enough of the music to decide if it's worthwhile, though.
The game seems well-balanced, as well. I was able to beat the demo the first time through, but it wasn't a walk in the park. It took timing, adapting, and other skills. This is definitely a game you *play*, rather than just a game that takes you along for the ride.
Even though I'm giving the game 5 stars, there are some minor issues like typos. You'd think if any game had thorough spell-checking, it'd be a typing game. Also, at least in the demo, I feel like the ration of cut-scene to game play was a bit heavy on the former. I'm usually very patient and enjoy lore and story, but in this demo I found myself just wanting to get to the action. Even with as fun as the story is, I started to skim it just so I could get to gameplay faster.
The end result of playing this demo is that, I'm almost certainly going to by the game at some point. Definitely give it a shot!
