Nobody Wants to Die

Watch a playthrough instead

If you make a mistake at any point, your ending is basically crap. Worst of all, you can't go back to a point in the story, you MUST restart the entire story. Just watch somebody who did it and you can save some money and time. Great visuals though.

Wreckfest

Barely resembles Flatout

Played this for 5 minutes or so and even though it's made by the makers of Flatout, it misses nearly all the charm of that previous game. They tried to make it more realistic and add more physics effects (hitting the car at an angle damages only that angle), but the music is not audible during races regardless of settings, there's no nitro or turbo, catching up is more difficult even at easy, the jumps aren't as spectacular... Only the graphics are better and it's still fluid on my toaster. Do not buy this if you are hoping for a new Flatout with the same fun.

FlatOut

Go for flatout 2 straight away

Though fun at first, this game is buggy. Sometimes I'd be flung out of the car because of hitting an invisible target, sometimes it would detect being off-road and never recover, and there were a bunch of other things. Flatout 2 is this game, just better.

Frostpunk

A welcome surprise

Until this game, I hadn't played a city building game for a really long time. It immediately pulled me in and I spent hours trying to finish the main story. When I finally did, it felt like such an achievement! In the meantime I bought a new game and am focused on that, but now that I understand the story, I really want to build some of the buildings I didn't build and really excel at the other levels. This well worth long sessions, testing different strategies until things work out the way you want to. Who thought building in a circle would be so much fun? Edit: After watching reviews of Frostpunk 2, that game expands in a way that isn't interesting for me. This game loop is interesting enough and a bigger tech tree, longer story, and bigger map would've been amazing. Alas, once I built everything there was to build.... game was over for me.

Surviving Mars

A typical paradox game

The premise is titillating. Absolutely love the idea of terraforming Mars. This game however only allows you to get a few hours in before it throws a great big spanner in the works every.single.time. It's a plague, it's a never-ending storm, it's an energy crisis, it's always something. Paradox Games just loves to make these kinds of games that go well for enough that you think the game is cool, then they destroy it, no matter what the difficulty. Surviving Mars is no exception. I really want to be able to recommend this, but the fun was completely gone after the third time I hit that game mechanic. And for some reason, although this game lends itself perfectly to it, there is no multiplayer or co-op. Just imagine being able to terraform Mars **together** with your best friends - either in bases together or separately on the map. Well, keep dreaming, because it'll never happen. At least the game looks nice and the audio is stellar...
