Hey @GOG, what's up?

Can you please change the way the offline installers are numbered/named so that part 8 of 8 is not file number 7? etc

part 1 is not file number 2?

You don't have the change the titles of the links, but at least change the names of the files. Or if it is easier the other way around.
So that when I need to downlead file -14.bin I don't have to make sure to click to download part 15. Or is it part 13? You see what I am talking about?

Thanks, especially if someone from GOG actually reads this. (yeah I know).
GOG's forums lack a ping or I'd be able to go @SCPM and summon a user at random.

So I think I understand what goes wrong: They count the installer stub as "one".

But the solution is backwards; they just need a better installer format that doesn't require bespoke "bin" files.

It is understandable that for non-programmers, it might be visually-confusing when attempting to download Part 8, while the file ends with 7.bin.

The main issue is that, if the file name of each bin were to have their number increased by one, the exe would likely require a rebuild, as during installation, it attempts to sequentially locate bin files from 1.bin onward (rather than starting with 2.bin).

In my view, the least technically-problematic option would be for GOG to simply alter the 'Offline Backup Game Installers' list for each appropriate game within our libraries. The (Part 1 of ?) label of the exe would be replaced with (Main Installer) (or, something similar), while the part number label for all bin files would be decreased by one (and, of course, the total part number would also decrease). The download URLs (as well as file names) would maintain their current naming convention, with the exe being referred to as 0 (example: https://www.gog.com/downloads/example/en1installer0).

That's a good solution. I hope that GOG is reading this or that you work for GOG.

trusteft: Numbering of files
I agree.
The numbering is irritating AF, and (especially with big games with lots of files) I often have to double-check, that I selected the correct file.

Though: if you try to download the same file double, you should usually notice immediately, because in that case, the browser/downloader will add (1) to the file's name.

What I do when I remember it, is to check how many files exist in the folder I am downloading the game, so if there are 6 files, I know that the next file I need to download is part 7. Which is of course very stupid that I have to do this, but whatever.

The easiest solution to align, would be that the bin files match the file number, and the exe is part 8 (or whatever the last one is); OR start at 0 rather than 1.

GOG should have fixed the file numbering discrepancy many years ago, or even better, never had any such discrepancy in the first place.

But then again, keeping it broken like this makes the offline installers a colossal pain to use, and thus herds people into using GOG Galaxy in order to download their games, the doing of which bypasses this problem.

So that is probably what GOG is going for, and that's probably why they leave - and most likely always will continue to leave - the file numbering system broken.

I hope you are mistaken.
