Wait.

What's that sound?

I can totally understand not necessarily wanting to change japan as your location but if you change your mind at some point, clearing your cache and cookies should do the trick ;)

1. Find StarChan.

2. ???

3. Eternal happiness.

And it's a cowbell, by the way.
My issue with it is it updating without my interaction. I've had to reset it to other multiple times frankly if a user has set it the thing should stick to whatever I've put there.

Bobek90: We can? Then I think we are talking about a problem that doesn´t exist, everyone who doesn´t want to show information about country where he lives right now set "others" and problem solved.

Hovewer, I want to disagree with you. The information about the country where you live doesn´t is a very private matter for me, more curiosity. Somethin truly private regarding your location, would be the concrete city or the community where you actually live. Instead what say me Germany or United States? It can mean point A, or point B, tens, hundrend or thausend of kilometers far away point A.

We are living in a time where there is less and less privacy. Our searches on the internet aren´t private, state agencies, large multinationals such as Google, have access to them 24 hours a day. Really in this context, country where you live, is it a sensitiva personal information? Guy is from Czech Republic. What that information tells me respect him? He can life anywhere around this country. I don´t even know if he is local, he can be a foreigner. And he is one of the 10 million people who live there. So... tells me not much.

TentacleMayor: To a stranger yes, the country alone isn't very useful in identifying you. To someone who knows more about your preferences, the time of day you're active on GOG, your writing style etc. it can be used to link your online persona to meatspace. So if,e.g. friends, family or classmates go snooping around to find your post history on the place where they know you buy your games, you don't want to narrow down their search by giving away the country. Assuming of course they don't know your username and you want to keep it to yourself.
Don´t get me wrong, I don´t want to offend you in any way, but the example you have given to me seem so surreal. That is, first to think that a friend of yours who know your routines on GOG, preferences, and so on - although I don´t understand how someone can know all this about you and didn´t know a simple nickname - dedicate his time to analize writing style of tens of user to find out the nickname that his friend has in GOG. It doesn´t make sense to me. It´s just not that simple, we all like to think we are unique, but we don´t. It´s very difficult to do what you suggest, you aren´t the only one who might have that preferences, be from that country, and use that language style. It´s not so easy.

But most important, for what all this? What you hidding from your friends or family here? Don´t you want they to know what games you play? But you said they already know you preferences... Don´t you want they know what you write on GOG forum? But´s it just all about games, just a hobby, I understand if it were forum about, i don´t know, politics preferences or mental illnes, I mean somethin a lot more personal. I don´t get it, do youy have the same nickname here and in dirty sites like ...hub? Well, yeah, you shouldn´t, but don´t worry, if they say they don´t watching that stuff, they just lying.

Ok, now seriously, I don´t see sense in the example that you gave, and most importantly, it remains something unprovable for me. Also, if a friend or family member or classmates would searches for my nickname on GOG, has had interest in knowing all my routines and preferences, even language style I use, then the information about country I live in from my GOG profile would be the least of my problems, trust me.

Honestly, no. I have years and years of activity on this and other gaming communities. Not everything I've posted has been about games. There must have been plenty of times I posted stuff I wouldn't want friends and family to see. That's the whole point of using an alias: privacy and anonymity. I know I'm somewhat paranoid and secretive but I can't be the only one who wants to keep their online persona separate from their real life.

I always tell my parents what I'm playing, but they don't seem to care.

They are usually too busy trying to chew through the ball gags and claw out of the cellar.

Tauto: Also note that on these forums the display of fairness is turned off by default. But,bringing up stuff from 2015 is not covered under the statue of limitations and is fair game.Under section 193,it is not permissible for Tauto to defend himself in any way without the threat of a ban or said thread locked and it is permissible for all to hit out at Tauto in any fashion as long as they think/assume it is justified......Thanks for the laughs but sleep is beckoning.Good night everyone.
Keep tuned in for more 2015 clippings from your favorite, clip collector (you know who).

Oh look. One of the gang is here to back up it's buddy.Where's the rest of the gang supporting a family insulter?Yeah,I remember the great pablo sitting on the side lines throwing rocks and using vulgarities. But that was 2015 when the gang were tough guys sitting in a dark room somewhere on the other side of the world being a Gog hero. Now you/she just comes in occasionally to try and be clever. Why don't you save it for the giveaways as you have become an expert in begging/asking for freebies.A friendly tip...after you miss in a giveaway,be humble and thank the donar and try to congratulate the winner as most others at least do.....Thanks for the laughs.

And regarding the email warning I just got, so long as 'you know who' is getting the same warning, I'm cool. :D

The privacy aspect of the country tag is like others earlier have said rather benign to be concerned about. Sure you can change it (and hopefully it stays that way), but truly, what does it say about the user themselves? Nothing of the personality of the user that's for sure.

Sometimes it can be useful. If we are struggling to read someone's posts in English a quick glance at the user's country might help generate understanding of why this is the case (and may even in specific circumstances help in translating the broken language used).

Other times it is very interesting and pleasant to see the variety of international users posting here (which I believe might have been the reason for implementing this in the first place). Granted, with the system left up to the honesty / preference of the user some of the countries may be being falsely represented, or the user is living in said country but originally comes from another. *shrug* That's the nature of the online world.

In any case it is entirely up to you whether you want to use your legitimate country tag or not. Hopefully your choice sticks.

tinyE: I would like one of two things from GOG in this regard, and I don't think it's asking too much.

Either add Pangaea or Keweenaw to the list of options.

Both are completely viable, real places and neither is offensive, political, or in any way controversial.
I`d rather have the option to choose "Z`Ha`Dum".
I dislike how it automatically changes when I travel.

If you were living on a person, that would make you a parasite. XD
