Am I the only one who's excited for this!?!?!?!

Halo 1 is one of my favourite games of all time. I bought an old PC copy back in '12 but was never able to play the other games due to not having an X-box. I've only never actually preordered a game. But I might break that rule just this once!

I really hope this comes to GOG. Steam's fine but there's something special about owning a game here.

You are aware that Halo 2 was released on PC too ?

Point_Man: It's a collection of 6 Halo games. I'm pretty sure 1 & 2 were remastered with things like better textures and fully redone CGI cutscenes by Blur Studio. The rest are just the originals with higher resolution & framerate. They're adding another old Halo game (Reach) to the collection and they said they're updating it in some way, not sure if it will be a remaster like 1 & 2 or just the original with higher resolution and framerate...
I'd love to believe that all the games started out as their original release versions, and then they were updated. But what has me worried is the 60FPS output. Especially getting that to work on Halo 3, and on, which were all console exclusives. That just might be impossible using the original engines. Then again, I don't know what would be possible if you had the source codes for the games.

Games for windows live and Vista only though, so it might as well have been an Xbox exclusive.

There are a few keystone games that define genres. When Doom came out, it was a trendsetter that everyone was talking about and comparing others to (eg "Doom-clone"). When Halo came out, once again, it was the game everyone was comparing others to. It pioneered many mechanics that have become standard: vehicles, two-weapon limit, quick press of a dedicated button for grenade, and likewise for melee. For its importance to gaming history, it really should be on GOG. It wasn't perfect, but that is likely because it was trying so many new things. I would definitely snap it up if it came on GOG. I previously had no hope that Microsoft or Blizzard would ever put anything on GOG because they already had their own digital storefronts, but the recent Diablo release proved me wrong.

Personally, I would predict that they will release Halo MCC only on Steam at first, and some time later release the original Halo Combat Evolved (not MCC) on GOG for the "purists" who want the original, pristine, retro version. And then much later, they might put MCC on GOG. Maybe. Eventually.
But that is just my opinion.

I'll wait and see. I won't be buying it on Steam anytime soon. Maybe if enough time passes that I conclude they won't bring any Halo to GOG.
It would be nice if they ever gave a free copy of H1 Anni or H2 Anni to owners of the original PC ports of either of these games, but it's very doubtful they'd do this. I still have my copy of Halo 2 PC.

My interest in the Halo series started dwindling when I realised they weren't publishing 3 for the PC and especially after they kept the series going with what I felt (having played none of them) were spin-offs and cash cows.

Having said that, I do like an FPS with a decent story behind it, and I do maintain that the Halo universe is more interesting than most. A rampage shooter like Shadow Warrior, Serious Sam and Painkiller just doesn't do it for me.

Yes. But I believe it was for Vista only? I've never had a Vista machine so It will be the first chance I get,

I agree. There is a charm the the look of the Original games for me at least. It would be nice seeing as how System Shock and Bioshock also some with their original versions here.

Oh boy. That's something I can't possibly miss, especially since I have only played the first one and it's the one game that start my FPS journey. Guess I'll start saving money from now on

There was actually nothing that 'required' Vista at all- MS just put a check in the installer that caused it to throw a "Please update to our new piece of crap" message and quit if it detected an older OS. There were apparently workarounds that bypassed this check, and it worked fine on XP.

Sounds like Microsoft allright
can't wait to see how bad 343 fucks up Reach. i'll wait for reviews before buying on PC depending on if they have enough graphics options, mostly increasing FOV and disabling a lot of graphics options i hate.
We were waiting for a GOG/Microsoft deal that would hopefully include a new remaster of Halo series. Guess we can rule that out now.

The only graphics option I usually disable is motion blur.

i HATE motion blur, depth of field is second on that list.
At least it's not on the awful Windows Store.
