In any case, they're not asking for an end to all giveaways: They're asking for people to simply stop posting codes openly (as well as trade openly with strangers) because they attract scammers and they encourage scamming behavior.
And yet having giveaways with effort is just as attractive a solution to these scammers. What they'll do? Oh, they'll just upgrade their smarts in order to overcome the new obstacles, and still manage to do their deeds. After all, scammers are humans, right? They'll find ways around your existing systems to get up your self-imposed knit.
In essence the argument seems to be that people should be allowed to continue to particpate in behaviour that is demonstrably known to be harmful to the community, in the name of personal freedom.
Oh please, I just told you that all giveaways are harmful because they attract the very phobia you fear. Just give them up. For me, let people who want to code drop do manage to code drop without having a plethora of desperate people smack them around and even try to make this desperate thread to smack them further, and for people who want to do an artwork contest, a first come first serve trick, or whatever else, do them as they wish. As long as they don't break the rules or break a 'gray area rule', they're clear to steer, regardless of what strange observations you have gathered and generalized.

Its not though. You should know by the lack of entries into your current (I presume its ongoing) GA that you do not get flooded by entries when you ask for some effort. I've seen some pretty big prizes go with a mere handfull of entries because the effort was too much for too many - and no scam accounts involved at all.
