I made my parents upgrade our family PC for this. I lived in this game for months, the faction variety, the maps, the game modes, it was everything. I loved the first game as well, but BfME 2 enhanced it so well, the free building placing, the addition of elves, dwarves and goblins, the story mode about the war in the north of Middle-earth, the inclusion of book characters and locations like Glorfindel, or Erebor made it the ultimate Middle-earth game of time. Such a shame no sequel was made, an even bigger shame that it's still unavailable digitally. I know, licensing hell and whatnot, but if people at Embracer and EA are reading this: I will buy it full price, the second it's available. Especiall if you include the first game and the expansion disk as well.

One of my first RTS games that wasn't Age of Empires and by far my favorite non AOE RTS. It brings the various factions of Middle Earth to life in a way that is fun and makes playing them off against eachother a blast. This game is impossible to buy or play now and truely deserves to be preserved.

I grew up playing RTS with my cousins. We longed for the weekends, when our parents would load the car with our big PCs and heavy CRT monitors and take us to a sleep-over. We had a LAN party in the dinning table, and played either RTS games or Counter-Strike. Our favorite, by far, was The Battle for Middle-Earth. It is one of the best RTS I had ever played. We got in a lot of trouble playing all night in loud bouts. The setting, the art style, the music, the heroes, the large armies... It was all unforgetable. Not over-complicated, but not too simple to be boring. I would love to have this game in my permanent collection. To play it once more with my cousins. And to know this gem would never die.

I remember this one very well, back when the games came in a paper box with the manual and the CD/DVD inside and after installing it you would spend hours and hours playing. I played both campaigns, and I even remember that the Good one had a really annoying bug if it wasn't updated. It also had some really interesting features like creating heroes and the Middle-earth conquest mode with the full map. Unfortunately I never got to play the expansion, so it would be a great opportunity if GOG manages to do it.

Let's not forget about the very good expansion pack The Rise of the Witch-King. I hope it's included in the basic version. It would be good to see them released together.

It's not all that unique gameplay-wise, but it has a unique combination of things I haven't seen since. The way units work, combined with the hero based gameplay, the building system and the building upgrades. And all that combined with my favourite fantasy franchise. Also the graphics aren't bad, so it holds up well. I had to pirate it, because no one is willing to sell it to me. Please give me the opportunity to buy the game.
While Ago of Empires is rightfully legendary this was the actually game series that caused me to fall in love with the RTS genre. Seeing the world of J.R.R. Tolkien and the vistas and iconic design of Peter Jackson's Trilogy realized in a strategy game was pure magic for me. And out of all the games that I treasured on physical disc, this and and the game that preceded it are among my favorites, it would mean the world to me to have these made easily available again so that I can relive that magic.

Remember all of those Lotr Age of Empires II mods you played? Yeah, this is the culmination of all of that. A truly masterfully made and faithfully implemented RTS game.

Love this! So much competition playing this at LAN parties in college. First of all, being Lord of the Rings fans made this game, and it's prequel, and instant buy, but it was the fact that this game had the mechanics to play hyper competitively that kept us coming back to it over and over again -- many energy drinks and much junk food was consumed during late night hours playing this.

Black & White 2
Black & White 2In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them. However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires. The player also has a creature, their physical representation in the world, which takes the form of an anthropomorphic ape, lion, wolf, turtle, cow, or tiger. Its physical manifestation can grow to an immense size, and adopt a good or evil persona separate of the player's. They develop their character as the player rewards or punishes their actions. In addition to the god simulation and city-building elements introduced in the original Black & White, Black & White 2 also features elements of real-time strategy gameplay, with the addition of controllable warfare and fighting units.
