This is one of those games that have a special place in my heart. I've played this game many times since its original release on the GameCube on my brother's system and happily own some of its later ports between different systems, and to me, resident evil 4 is one of the most fun horror-action games I've played. It took the Resident Evil series in a bold new direction (for better or worse, depending on who you ask) while featuring tight controls, solid levels, great combat, an arsenal of fun weapons, a story that doesn't take itself too seriously, with extra content and unlockables that will keep you coming back for more even before the controversial PlayStation 2 port even added more content to the game. This is a game that definitely deserves a DRM-free PC release on GOG.com, preferably the Ultimate HD Edition release of the game as it is so far the most content complete release while offering the ability to enjoy the game in HD resolutions, offers the original textures as an option, and toggle 30 or 60 FPS gameplay.
That being said, I also do wish the GOG.com staff could fix this particular port up to fix some performance/optimization problems, gameplay issues, downgraded audio quality without proper surround sound support, and visual errors that were introduced in the later ports since the Xbox 360 port that carried in the Ultimate HD Edition for PC as well as bugged animations when playing at 60 FPS. While re4_tweaks is exists and it's an excellent mod for fixing some issues with the port, but I would love to see these issues fixed outright and original features from the previous versions restored in the Ultimate HD Edition without needing to mod the game to fix some of these issues ourselves to better preserve this game for future generations. Please, GOG.com, bring this game here and DRM-free.
