Truly? That it doesn't require the EGS to be running doesn't mean it's DRM-free, Steam also has these features (custom executables or placing a DRM token into the windows registry). I've even seen it mentioned in some thread here a while ago, so I'm pretty certain you'll have read or even written that, so apologies if I'm stating the obvious here.

The only way to be certain is to move the installed game to a computer that doesn't have EGS installed (possibly never had, or on another account that didn't redeem the particular game). Of course, that may still fail due to a number of other reasons like missing benevolent registry entries.
I guess putting your installed library on an external hdd might be a good idea even beyond testing such things.

You seem a bit confused. DRM is a method of protecting copyrighted content by requiring independent verification that the user has the legal right to run the program. In today's world that invariably means verifying a user's credentials against an online server of authorized users. (In the past, it was far more common to verify the physical medium that the content was being distributed on using some form of encryption or difficult to reproduce physical anomaly in the medium.)

For digital content distribution systems, DRM generally requires the distribution platform's software be running and have internet access while the game is running. Those "custom executables" that steam uses require the steam client in order to validate the digital rights of the user. That is the complete equivalent of what drxenija has been testing for in Epic Games distributions. Please strop trying tt discourage him, as his notes on each game being given away is useful here.,

BTW. the registry has nothing to do with whether a product is DRM protected or not. It does nothing more than store information locally, such as installation location, uninstaller location, version numbering, user names and keys, and configuration information. All of that information is created by the installer, as the program is installed, or by the program as it is being run. It does prevent you from simply copying the files to another drive and running them. That, however, is not Digital Rights Management. That is nothing more than a requirement that the program actually be installed on the computer it is to be used on and not moved to some other location.
