I really enjoyed this back in the day, and thought it was a very fun addition to the series. It takes all the things you'd want from a Wolfenstein game i.e shooting " historically bad dudes of german heritage" (seems I can't use the N word here, no, not that N-word, the other N word) with weapons that turn them into smouldering piles of ash, and adds in some neat paranormal abilities.
Then they added in a modest non-linear element to the level design, and some pleasant set-pieces, to make a game that captured the essence of previous titles whilst still aiming to expand upon the shooty-shooty-bang-bang.
I liked it a lot, but from what I can recall it had some back-tracking that annoyed people, due to re-using a hub area (even though it had secrets to find and modest immersive sim elements included)
Some of the missions were also perhaps a bit shorter than previous games, but it still had great action and scenes of spectacle.
I'd hoped it would get a re-release now that Microsoft owns all of the parties involved in it, yet that doesn't appear to be on the cards. Which is a shame for me, as this is a quality release that I reckon still holds up compared to the newer versions. For £30 or so it would be a no-brainer to purchase, as there's a flavour here that got lost along the way, both in the series and in first-person shooters in general.
